Ghosts & Legends of Michigan’s West Coast Book

A ghost story told at night takes us back to a time when homes were lit with oil lamps and the nights were darker than dark!

Western Michigan is home to some of the state’s most picturesque places and also some of its most chilling tales. Ghost story researcher and enthusiast Amberrose Hammond exposes the mysterious and spirit-ridden world of many beloved Michigan destinations as she skillfully weaves narratives of a world unseen by most. From the lingering spirit forever working in the Grand Theatre and the band of melon-headed children prowling the Saugatuck State Park to the lights of the Lake Forest Cemetery staircase waiting to reveal one’s place in the afterlife, these tales are sure to give pause to anyone daring enough to experience these hauntingly beautiful spots…after dark.”

A Book Review by Ryan Eberhart:

On December 15, 2019 I received Amberrose Hammond’s book Ghosts and Legends of Michigan’s West Coast at a Christmas party. The party was thrown by the ghost hunting team that I belong to, Great Lakes Ghost Hunters of Michigan, and a couple of other teams in Southeast Michigan. The book was given as part of a white elephant gift exchange in which I was the last one to choose in the last round… and of course I am an avid reader and wanted the book.

Upon returning home I immediately began reading Ghosts and Legends. Amberrose Hammond started out by telling of the janitor and projectionist, John Buchanan, that may still be working at the Grand Theater in Grand Haven. Of course John has been dead for decades and all that is left of the theater is the foyer.

Hammond also tells stories of haunted cemeteries and even a whole island. She includes stories of lighthouses and ghost ships. And not to be left out Amberrose includes legends such as the Melonheads. Yes, I said Melonheads.

Ghosts and Legends is a short book of 119 pages and is an easy read. I recommend reading this book to anyone who has even a passing interest in ghosts and legends. I also recommend this book to the hardened investigator who has been investigating the paranormal for decades.
